Jewellery Care

Your Facet Lane piece has been crafted with care and precision, designed to be cherished for a lifetime. To help keep your ring as brilliant as the day you received it, we’ve put together some simple tips for everyday care, cleaning, and maintenance.

Everyday Care – Wear with care

While diamonds are incredibly durable, gold and platinum are precious metals that can wear or scratch over time. We recommend removing your ring or jewellery piece when:

• Exercising, lifting weights, or playing sport

• Cleaning, gardening, cooking, or other manual labour hard on the hands.

• Swimming – chlorine and saltwater can damage metals and settings, and cool water can cause rings to loosen

• Applying lotions, perfumes, or hand sanitiser -  Chemicals and abrasives can dull the shine or damage the metal’s surface finish.

Cleaning Your Jewellery Pieces

You can safely clean your jewellery at home with:

• A bowl of warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap

• Soak your piece for 15–20 minutes

• Gently brush with a soft toothbrush (especially under the diamond's setting)

• Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a lint-free cloth

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners unless we’ve specifically confirmed your piece is suitable, as they can loosen stones in delicate settings.

Professional Maintenance – Inspection and Polishing

We recommend a professional check-up every 6–12 months to ensure:

• Diamonds remain secure in their settings

• The claws, prongs, and band show no signs of wear

• The finish is refreshed (high polish or matte as designed)

Metal-Specific Care

Gold Rings

• Gold is a soft metal, so surface scratches are normal with daily wear.

• White gold rings are rhodium plated for a bright white finish; this can be re-plated every 1–2 years to restore shine.

• Avoid stacking rings of different metals or karat weights, as harder metals can wear away the softer one over time.

• Store separately in a soft pouch to prevent friction against other jewellery.

Platinum Rings

• Platinum is naturally white and durable, but can develop a soft “patina” over time, a subtle sheen that many love for its character.

• It can be polished to restore its mirror finish if preferred.

• Platinum does not lose metal when scratched – it simply shifts, meaning your ring will last beautifully for generations when cared for appropriately.

Storage & Travel

• Store jewellery in a soft-lined jewellery box or pouch

• Keep your piece separate from other pieces to prevent scratching

• When travelling, pack your piece securely in a padded case
